B. http://www.fatcheck.org/

a.       Currency
Fatcheck is extremely accurate because their last post was on September 7, 2012.Yes, this site is regularly updated. I don’t see any links, and it doesn’t show how long it’s been operational.
b.      Relevance
The information is very political and whatever topic I’m interested in has no affiliation to this site. It does, however, carry off the appropriate depth and breadth in their articles. It is very necessary because it discusses political excursions facing our society and gives sufficient articles that articulate details of political culture. I think the information presented is for an education level of college political degrees and further. People must have a master of basic politics to get into their topics.

c.       Authority
They do have a set staff that provides all the information, publishing, and graphics of the site. They list all their staff and their credentials and qualifications. Yes, they provide contact information, email, address and phone numbers. They give detailed information about their sponsors and their money fiscal growth. The Annerberg foundation gives them most of their money, but they do accept individual donations.
d.      Accuracy
Fatcheck tries to be as objective as possible when it comes to their information. I think the information is accurate to some extent; they follow everything political and try to document them with the upmost accuracy. Yes, the cite references directly in their articles, the links are in blue so you can click on them to refer to the original information, and they use direct quotes of the politicians. I think it is peered reviewed b/c they have a good amount of  staffs  and presently are the  society of professional journalist award winner. The site is presented in a professional, formal article. They have no emotional or harsh languages. They guaranteed to be accurate in their proceedings, keeping everything as objective as possible, getting everything directly from the source.
e.      Purpose
They are trying to be a “nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics.” They don’t really advertise anything other than their site programs, but they are not trying to advance any ideology or belief system, except the journalism creed to be as objective as possible. Fatcheck doesn’t tell why they were created, but their mission to their readers.

A. http://www.justfacts.com/

a.       Currency
The information on the site is pretty recent; they cite every article, which contains the date and the author. It does have a date for revisions. Yes, the links on the site are functional; it takes you directly to another link where you can see the original pdf document. Just Facts started as an informal endeavor in 1997.
b.      Relevance
I clicked on the article about Pollution, which is very relevant to me and today’s environment. The information is very limited since the site itself gives in-depth, accurately sited information, but the topics seem very relevant to today’s problems.
c.       Authority
James D. Agresti and Stephen F. Cardone are the primary researchers of Just Facts. They do have credentials; both went to Brown University and have  varying experiences in different fields. The site does have legible contact information and they are sponsored by whoever feels the obligation to donate to their organization. It is a nonprofit organization, and does not share the information about their donors.
d.      Accuracy
Just Facts makes sure that every one of their facts is 100% transparent. They make sure they cite every single wording they input into their articles. I don’t personally have an interest in any of the topics. As stated before, everything on the site is transparent, complete with direct quotes, links and citations. I don’t know formally if the information is peer reviewed, but I can confirm the links they give approves their information. The site is very professional, the wording and draft style is formally written. There is no language that is overly harsh or emotional. It seems to show completely unbiased, almost encyclopedia-like information.
e.      Purpose
Their commitment is to “accuracy and exhaustive documentation has resulted in citations and links from…” They are nonprofit organization, so they do not advertise anything. I think they’ve tried to stick to the same ideology they were founded on, keeping every as recently accurate and transparent as possible. However, they are conservative /libertarian in their viewpoints, but they do not give a biased preference like the regular media outlets. They are committed to the objectivity of facts and that is their main purpose.

Assignment 2 discussion

Today, I'm going to discuss about my search engine results . My topic was wisdom teeth and I used 3 individual search engines, Webmd, CNN, Abc news, and meta search engines, Google, Bing, and Yahoo. I chose the topic of wisdom teeth because during the summer I had 4 wisdom teeth extractions and I was in excruciating pain. Of course, using the meta search engines, they had similar results;the first result of all three was on wikipedia, but Google seemed to have the broadest results. Meanwhile ,Yahoo and Bing had  individualized searches that led to better results, showing you sites for actual dental help, webmd... On the other hand, my individual search engines, were extremely detailed and individualized. CNN to me was the least effective site for searching for my topic. The results would not be helpful, they only showed some journalist complaining about a tooth extraction. Webmd had the best results out of all my search engines because the site is more individualized for medical purposes. However, I got to give my props to Abcnews, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have known someone actually died during a procedure, or hilarious videos of people sedated. In conclusion, for my topic a more specialized site will be the best preference, but individual sites generally have detailed results. (P.S. Below are my tables for individual and meta search engines)
